Gianyar Bali

Rich in both history and culture, the regency of Gianyar is rich in artistic tradition and share's some of the islands most talented painters and dancers. There are a number of villages from Batubulan to Ubud which feature some amazing artwork including gold and silver, painting, sculptures and woodcarving. Just 25km north of Denpasar is Ubud. Here one can experience dozens of shops, markets, restaurants and with its own tourism information center this is a perfect spot to visit. Whilst you're there take a look at some of the museums which display fine works of both traditional and modern Balinese art. The regency of Gianyar is also home to some of the most spectacular temples including the ancient hermitage of Goa Gajah also known as the "Elephant Cave" which is located on the Petanu River between Peliatan and Bedulu. The cave was discovered by Western archeologists in 1923. Here one can also view some elaborate stone carvings, Buddhist stupas and a sacred bath. Many tourists make this regency a place to stay or visit as it features some of Bali's most spectacular scenery
